Moving Tips

From Local Moves to Long Hauls, Smart Move Gets You There.

Gather personal belongings

It's a good idea to gather any medicine, jewelry or other personal items before the movers arrive. This way it's not loaded in the truck before you realize it!

Don't skimp on manpower

Packing and moving is labor intensive. Make sure to hire enough crew members to effectively get the job done. Our staff will advise you on the recommended number of movers.

Be organized

If there are loose items on moving day, it can make the job take longer. If you are packing yourself, make sure that everything is put in a box. This will protect the items as well as make moving day faster. Smart Move is happy to take care of the packing for you.

Have enough material

If you are doing a self-service move such as loading a POD or rental truck, make sure to have enough materials to protect your items. Contact us for a recommendation on how many disposable pads, moving blankets and ratchet straps you need.

Plan for children and pets

It's not safe for children or pets to be free roaming during a move. We could trip over them and someone could get hurt. It's best if we can make plans for children and pets to enjoy their day elsewhere. If you can't make other plans for them on moving day, make sure to keep the children in a designated area and to keep the pets in a crate.

Good communication

We perform confirmation calls before the move. If you have any extra-large or heavy items, such as a piano, pool table or safe, please let us know. This way we can be prepared to move those items. If there are any other special circumstances for your move, please let us know during the confirmation calls. Some examples could be a new build, address not showing up on GPS or a steep driveway. Also, if you have any questions, feel free to ask! That's what we're here for.
